hello there.

Well, whaddya wanna know?  Here's the plain and simple truth:  My name is Rebekah Tennis and I love design.  I love paper, the way it feels, its weight and texture.  I love extra special touches on little things: homemade tags on gift-wrap, old stamps on an envelope, and twine on nearly everything.

My husband, business partner and all-around solid rock Matt would probably tell you that he likes tools - lots of 'em, finding the perfect way to do something, taking things apart, and precision in everything.

So you might as well have guessed by now... we are the perfect match for an old letterpress studio. Together we farm rice and have a small but adorable two-year old son, Cameron.  This keeps us fairly busy, but whenever we have a spare moment, we crank up our 102 year old Chandler and Price platen press and pull some prints.

There's more, oh yes, there IS more - but that's what this blog is for.  Take a look around, get to know us, our great town of Chico, California and our beautiful presses.

things I love: { shelter mags }

With word out and about on the recent closings of Gourmet (sniff, sniff!), Cookie and Modern Bride by Condé Nast (which said empire is seriously starting to drive me bonkers), things are looking bleak for the magazine world.  Specifically, the shelter magazine – home decorating and inspiration, my favorite.  The two saddest terminations for me were Domino and Cottage Living.  I came a little late to the magazine world, and so didn’t even know or miss Blueprint (from Martha Stewart), although people say it was really, really good. And let me just say right here, the “replacements” that they send you when a magazine folds and your subscription hasn’t ended, they are pretty much guaranteed to be terrible.  When Domino died was killed, Condé tried to pass off Glamour on me!  Yes, makeup and home design have a lot in common, right?  Thanks but no thanks!

So, what good does this little rant to us?  Well, this may be old news to some of you, but there’s a new shelter mag out: Lonny Magazine.  The title comes from London / New York, style centers of the world.  I’ve read their premier issue, in which they tour five(!) homes of prominent designers and bloggers.  It’s young, hip and fresh, using a lot of the talent from aforementioned recently closed magazines.

The catch?  It’s an online read.  Not in print.  This was hard for me to get over at first, but with content and inspiration like the first issue produced, I’m going do my very best to ignore the fact that it’s on a computer screen, and still relax in a comfy chair with a steaming mug of tea and a pencil and notepad to jot down ideas.

Here’s to the success of a new magazine not owned by a big corporation!  Maybe they’ll someday expand to print.
